Did you experience this or know why this is happening? I posted a ? on the SBS Technet forums and below is the app crash/event log entries when it happens. If I remove the share on the RD1000 the console does not crash. Now when I open the SBS Console and click Shared Folders and Websites, the console crashes. I created a share on the RD1000 to do the backup. Once you create your removable backup to disk folders, you can perform individual or selected file/directory backups and restores in addition to complete system backups and restores. #Windows server 2008 r2 sp2 for sbs 2011 free
The Symantec QuickStart that comes free on the RD1000 Utility DVD does not experience these issues.
Microsoft native backup still refers to the RD1000 as a CD/DVD instead of a removable disk. Also, if you click on Restore server data from backup from within the SBS2011 console, it will take you straight to Windows Server Backup where the RD1000 is recognized as a possible backup target. The SBS console DOES recognize restore points on the RD1000 and restores can be performed through the SBS console. You must perform the backups through Windows Server Backup located under Storage in the Server Manager console. The SBS console DOES NOT recognize the RD1000 as a possible backup target. Additionally, only complete restores are available through the native Microsoft Windows backup. #Windows server 2008 r2 sp2 for sbs 2011 full
As previously mentioned, you can only perform full system backups and not granular backups of selected directories or files.I have confirmed that the RD1000 does work with SBS2011, but there are a few caveats imposed by Microsoft in the native backup solution.
